Meet Bu-nga & Nuttavut

Chai-Yo Café is owned by Bu-nga Krataitong and Nuttavut Rodsienglum. The casual dining style of Chai-Yo grew out of their love for fresh and innovative Asian cuisine — and their desire to make it available to everyone, whether you like it spicy or not so hot.

Learnt in our mothers' kitchens

Bu-nga and Nuttavut developed their love of food thanks to their mothers' cooking. Nuttavut's mother in particular was a fantastic cook, and she inspires everything they do at Chai-Yo. Their recipes draw on knowledge gained from cooking with their families in Thailand, refined while working in restaurants around the world.

Years of hospitality experience

A string of popular Asian fusion restaurants stands behind Chai-Yo's success. What started as a husband and wife team with one café is now the Simply Asia Food Group family of 70 staff (and two sons) — including Bamboo Garden and The Lemongrass in Blenheim, Chai-Yo Restaurant and The Lemongrass in Richmond, and SAMKO Café and Miracle Restaurant in Nelson.

Made for Blenheim

Over the years they've refined and adapted their food for New Zealand customers and the Kiwi palate — taking the best local ingredients while keeping the Thai and Asian roots of the food. Family is all-important to them, and the café is built on the same principle: a welcoming, casual, family-friendly place where everyone feels at home on Queen Street.
